The thick grey line shows the average cumulative precipitation calculated from 50 years of data (1951 to 2000). The average total cumulative precipitation from 1951 to 2000 by December 31 is 309 mm. An extreme Summer (June 1 to August 31) drought occurred in 2021 and 2023 when cumulative precipitation was around 50 to 60% of normal. 2023 is considered the most destructive wildfire season ever recorded in British Columbia. During 2023, very little rainfall occurred from mid-May to late October. As shown, Penticton in 2026 is experiencing a severe drought, with cumulative precipitation around 42% of the 1951 to 2000 average.
